The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations announced this year's organization and individual winners of the ninth annual Ernest Amory Codman Award, recognizing excellence in the use of outcomes measurement to achieve improvements in the quality and safety of healthcare. Deitra Lowdermilk, RN, PhD, a professor at the University of North Carolina's School of Nursing, received the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses' Award of Excellence in Education.
Lisa Martin-Crawford, BSN, MS, received a 2005 Association of Schools of Public Health Minority Fellowship, one of four public health fellowships made annually by the CDC, to support her research of type 2 diabetes prevalence in adolescents living in reservations. Martin-Crawford is a doctoral student at the University of Minnesota.
Diana J. Mason, RN, PhD, editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Nursing, received a 2005 Clarion Award for Best Magazine Regular Editorial/Opinion Column.
The Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas, honored Gordon Walters, a cardiovascular care unit nurse, with its 2005 Brown Foundation Outstanding Nurse Award.
The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing named Patricia D'Antonio, RN, PhD, its 2005 Best of Journal of Nursing Scholarship winner. The university also selected Barbara Riegel, RN, PhD, as recipient of the Katherine Lembright Award, for excellence in cardiovascular research by an established nurse scientist.
The University of Washington School of Nursing honored the following nurse leaders:Kathleen Shannon Dorcy, RN, MSN, with its Distinguished Alumni Award; Karen Schepp, RN, MSN, with its Distinguished Research Award; and Connie Anderson, RN, BSN, with its Humanitarian Award.

Nursing Management's EIC earns FAAN
The journal's Editor-in-Chief Richard Hader, RN, CNA, CHE, CPHQ, PhD, FAAN, was formally inducted into the American Academy of Nursing as a fellow during its 32nd Annual Meeting and Conference, November 12, in Scottsdale, Ariz. This distinction is one of the highest honors in the nursing profession.
