2006 International Conference on Aging, Disability, and Independence (ICADI)

February 1-5, 2006 Hilton St. Petersburg St. Petersburg, Florida

ICADI 2006 will bring together researchers, practitioners, business leaders, and people involved in aging policy to focus on issues such as assistive technologies, home and work-place modifications, injury prevention, high technology, universal design, and transportation options. Conference Tracks

 

1. Assistive Devices: Sessions addressing basic assistive devices such as mobility aids (examples: canes, walkers, crutches, wheelchairs); vision devices (examples: magnifiers, large print); hearing devices (examples: assistive listening devices, volume control, vibrating-alert devices); and cognitive devices (examples: pill organizers, reminder notes, wander-alert devices).

 

2. Housing, Home Modification & Universal Design: Sessions relating to the concept of universal design of products and built spaces, redesign and modification of existing homes, and other issues related to the provision of safe housing that promotes independent living.

 

3. Injury Prevention: Sessions that address falls, fire safety, poisons, pedestrian safety, and other aspects of maintaining a safe environment within the home and community.

 

4. Robotics: Sessions that discuss the latest advances in assistive devices that can now, or will in the future serve many of the "personal assistance" needs of older persons with disabilities.

 

5. Smart Homes: Sessions that discuss the integration of advanced technologies (such as wireless, computing, sensors, voice recognition) into a home setting to promote independence and safety through such systems as person tracking, behavior and household monitoring, task assistance, and alerting.

 

6. Telehealth: Sessions that address telehealth applications such as patient monitoring, information, and education. Promotion of independence is the major focus, accomplished through distance approaches to home care and rehabilitation.

 

7. Transportation: Sessions that address issues and approaches to older driver safety, testing and driver remediation; the role of low and high technology in enabling mobility later in life; and alternatives to personal vehicles.

 

AAHPM/HPNA 2006 Annual Assembly

The 2006 3rd Annual Assembly sponsored by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) and the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) will be held February 8-11, 2006 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel and Nashville Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

ASA Awards

Each year, the American Society on Aging (ASA) recognizes a number of individuals and organizations for their contributions to ASA, to the field of aging, and to older adults. Honors and cash awards of up to $2,500 are granted in such areas as health-care, mental health, business, research, and media coverage.
