The Lapex-2000, (Meridian Company, Ltd., Seoul, South Korea) a low-level laser therapy device, has been approved for adjunctive use in the temporary relief of hand and wrist pain associated with carpal tunnel syndrome. Its nonheating lamp delivers needle-free acupuncture via infrared light without damaging the skin tissue.

According to Meridian, the light source is placed in contact with the skin, allowing the photon energy to penetrate the tissue. The body then converts the photon energy into biochemical energy by interacting with cellular structures, resulting in the restoration of cell function, and enhancing healing.

The portable Lapex-2000 is digitally controlled and displays information on an LCD monitor.
