Abstract
Pancreatic pseudocysts occur as a consequence of acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, or pancreatic trauma. Pseudocysts that are symptomatic, complicated, or enlarging with time can be treated surgically, via percutaneous drainage, or by endoscopic methods. Currently, there are two endoscopic approaches for managing pancreatic pseudocysts: transpapillary and transmural. Endoscopy nurses play an important role in the care of patients before, during, and after an endoscopic drainage procedure. This article reviews the indications, techniques, potential complications, limitations, and nursing care involved in endoscopic management of pancreatic pseudocysts.
