CCWS
The American Academy of Wound Management, the certifying organization that awards the CWS (Certified Wound Specialist) credential, has formed an advocacy and educational arm called the College of Certified Wound Specialists (CCWS). The CCWS was incorporated in January.
The goal of the CCWS, according to its Web site, is to "promote advanced wound care and set the standard of care in wound management in the wound community." As part of its mission, the CCWS plans to "provide education, informational resources, and research avenues that will enhance the knowledge, skills, professional performance, and relationships required by health professionals to serve patients, the public, and their professions." To become a Fellow of the College of Certified Wound Specialists (FCCWS), a practitioner must possess the CWS credential.
Charles F. Gokoo, MD, CWS, FCCWS, is chair of the CCWS. Other officers include: Donald E. Mrdjenovich, DPM, CWS, FCCWS, Chair Elect; Robin D. Tellez, MS/HSA, RN, CWS, Secretary; and Jeffrey S. Guy, MD, MSc, CWS, Treasurer.
