As an interim manager in an oncology unit, I wanted to make our nurses feel proud and valued as members of the care team. I dubbed a huge unused bulletin board in our hallway the "Oncology Brag Board" and tapped a very creative member of our leadership team to head the project. First, we used the board to introduce ourselves to a new manager by posting everyone's graduation pictures and credentials.
Subsequent displays included Mother's Day and Father's Day tributes, photos of employees' families and pets, and accomplishments of our staff members, including positive comments from patients. We spotlight a star employee each month.
Everyone's been enjoying our brag board, including patients and staff in other units. We plan to keep updating it so it stays interesting for everyone.
