Learning From the Global Cardiovascular Nursing Leadership Forum
The Global Cardiovascular Nursing Leadership Forum (GCNLF) is a project of the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA), the leading nursing organization in the United States dedicated to the prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke. The mission of GCNLF is to engage and mobilize an international community of nurses to promote the prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke through research, education, policy, and advocacy.
On October 15-16, 2020, GCNLF hosted a live virtual meeting in the wee hours of the morning for some, early evening for others, and somewhere in between for everyone else. One thing is clear: almost any time is a good time to talk about reducing the global burden of cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disease. The following are recordings from that meetings, now available in our on-demand learning library (pcna.net/professional-development/online-learning). Learn what nurses across the globe are doing to manage, treat, and prevent cardiovascular disease.
Cardiovascular Disease Risk Management and Prevention-The Global Nursing Imperative
Monica Parry, RN(EC), MEd, MSc, PhD (Ontario, Canada), delivered a keynote address on the global imperative of cardiovascular nursing, underscoring the particular obstacles women encounter in receiving optimal cardiovascular care.
Global Nursing, Cardiovascular Disease, and COVID-19
Erica Burton, RN, MPH (Toronto, Canada), discussed the treatment, prognosis, and cardiovascular impact of the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), by highlighting the disparate impact on communities of color, socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, women, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) populations. Ms Burton described the health outcomes of nurses on the front lines in COVID intensive care units and encouraged listeners to interrupt disparities and promote health equity.
Toward Better Out-of-Hospital Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in a Challenged Country
Samar Noureddine, PhD, FAHA, FAAN (Beirut, Lebanon), describes her ongoing efforts to decrease the national incidence of death due to out-of-hospital cardiac arrests by establishing public access defibrillation programs and training citizens to perform "bystander CPR."
Your Heart, Our Mission: Advocacy in Action on the Island of Mauritius
Mr Kevin Beharry Paray (London/Mauritius) inspired attendees with the story of how he launched Heart Health Mauritius, a nonprofit organization on the island of Mauritius dedicated to decreasing the prevalence of cardiovascular disease where 1 in 2 islanders live with some form of cardiovascular disease.
From Here to There: Nursing Leadership Locally and Abroad
Lis Neubeck, PhD, BA(Hons), RN, FESC (Edinburgh, Scotland), took participants on a journey of becoming a nursing leader. She shared charming stories of how nurse leaders and mentors throughout her career influenced her professional development and career advancement and encouraged attendees to mentor and seek mentorship.
Congratulations to Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association's 2021 Poster Winners
Each year, PCNA invites healthcare professionals involved in innovation projects or original research related to cardiovascular risk reduction and disease management to submit an abstract for presentation at the Cardiovascular Nursing Symposium.
2021 Oral Abstract Presentations
Research and projects are scored by PCNA's Abstracts Review Committee based on originality, soundness of methodology, and written clarity. The Committee invites the primary authors of the highest scoring abstract from each category for oral presentation at the Cardiovascular Nursing Symposium.
