Abstract

Critical aspects of the demography of older adults will be taught to help identify stages of change as they relate to initiating and maintaining an exercise program. Behavioral change and factors influencing motivation are thoroughly discussed. Techniques to enhance motivation and to set goals are provided, with examples helpful in motivating the older adult population. After learning about stages of behavioral change and applying motivational techniques, participants will be able to more effectively motivate the senior population to be more physically active.
