The ability of nurses to practice in more than one state is often limited by onerous procedures in the application process for licensure in a new state. Multistate licensure has been a concern also of nurses working in the area of telehealth, in which communication with patients may involve crossing state lines. Some states have, or are considering instituting, laws that permit a nurse residing in one state to practice in other states that participate in a multistate licensure agreement. When AJN asked the state (or district) bodies that handle licensure to supply information, it included two questions on multistate licensure legislation.
