As we move into the year 2021, I know we are all hopeful that it will look nothing like 2020. There are many things that give us cause for hope, not the least of which is the development of vaccinations that may help bring the novel coronavirus pandemic to an end. Here at JAANP, we have several things to look forward to, and I'll mention a few here.
This month, we welcome five new members to our Editorial Board. Here is a very brief summary of their accomplishments:
Charles Buscemi, PhD, APRN, FNP-BC, CWCN. Dr. Buscemi is Clinical Associate Professor at Florida International University. He has published extensively on the topics of wound care and Hispanic health care. He has extensive experience as a peer reviewer and is a member of the social media task force for AANP.
Amanda Chaney, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, FAANP, AF-AASLD. Dr. Chaney is Senior Nurse Practitioner, Assistant Professor of Medicine, and Associate in Transplant Medicine for Liver Transplant/Hepatology at the Jacksonville, Florida campus of the Mayo Clinic. She has served on the board of directors of the International Transplant Nurses Society, and completed the AANP Future Leaders program.
Leon Chen, DNP, AGACNP-BC, FCCP, FAANP, FNYAM. Dr. Chen is Clinical Assistant Professor as well as a clinical program manager for research and simulated learning at the New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing. He is also an advanced practice provider in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. He has published extensively on a variety of critical care topics and is an experienced editorial board member and peer reviewer.
Karen Kalmakis, PhD, MPH, FNP-BC, FAANP. Dr. Kalmakis is the Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, as well as a sexual assault nurse examiner. She has an extensive record of funded research and expertise in NP educational topics as well as the study of adverse childhood events. She has served as a state representative to AANP.
Susan Ruppert, PhD, RN, FNP-C, ANP-BC, FCCM, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN. Dr. Ruppert is the PARTNERS Endowed Professor of Nursing, Distinguished Teaching Professor, and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She has published widely on NP role issues and a variety of primary care topics. She has served as both an Editor-in-Chief and a peer reviewer for many years. She serves as a commissioner on the AANP Certification Board.
Please join me in welcoming these very talented members to our editorial board. I know we will benefit from their experience, expertise, and ability to represent AANP membership.
Having welcomed our new members, I can't say enough to thank two members who are retiring. Dr. Mary Jo Goolsby and Dr. Madrean Schober have been invaluable members of our board for many years. Their retirement from the board makes us sad, but we wish them well as they move onto the next phase of their careers. They have devoted countless hours to the journal and have had a very active role in leadership of many projects that have contributed to the journal's success.
Finally, this year brings the addition of extra pages to our journal, for which I'm very grateful. While our journal has been publishing online-only for several years, pages must still be copyedited, and that's expensive. We are fortunate to gain extra pages in our journal this year to help the outstanding work of our authors reach a monthly issue with less waiting time.
As we all turn the page into a new year, I look forward to seeing you, my colleagues, again in the near future, and I don't just mean on Zoom. Let's look forward with hope and celebrate what the year ahead may bring.
