Abstract
What qualities does a nurse need to "make it" in rural home care? According to 12 experienced rural home care nurses, those who successfully make the transition into this practice are:flexible, creative, caring, willing to learn, able to practice independently, and able to tolerate uncertainty. The nurses were interviewed as part of a grounded theory study of rural home care nursing to promote more timely and effective transitioning of nurses new to this unique and expanding practice.
