Charles Kaiman is a painter and a clinical nurse specialist in psychiatric-mental health nursing at the New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Albuquerque. From 1960 to 1966 he studied at the Art Students League of New York with Jean Liberte and Edwin Dickinson; he also holds a bachelor's degree in art education from New York University and has taught painting and drawing to children and adults. He has had 13 one-man shows and is currently represented by Blue Mountain Gallery in New York City.
Kaiman says, "I've juggled careers in painting and nursing for many years, and the older I get, the more they seem to intersect. For example, I recently facilitated a group therapy session in which a deeply depressed, nearly suicidal man was comforted by another group member with the simple but powerful idea that just watching a sunrise or a sunset is ample reason to live. At that moment it hit me that my goal in landscape painting is to communicate to the viewer a similar sense of awe and appreciation of life."
