After reading " Nurses, Negligence, and Malpractice," by Eileen M. Croke (September 2003), I wanted to share some of our experience in Mexico. Quality-of-care issues in Mexico motivated the Interinstitutional Commission of Nursing-a branch of the health ministry that examines quality in health services and in nurses' education-to collaborate with the National Commission of Medical Arbitration (CONAMED) to carry out a review of complaints related to the practice of nursing in Mexico. All of the problems that Croke describes have motivated complaints against nurses in Mexico. In July 2003 we issued a series of recommendations based on these complaints that resemble those proposed in Croke's article. You can view our recommendations in Spanish online at http://www.cne.org.mx.
