THE BUSY WORKDAY OF A medical/surgical nurse doesn't offer you an opportunity to stop and reflect on the contributions that you're making to patients in your care. But sometimes it's good to take a moment and think about those contributions. You're not "just a nurse"; you're a highly trained expert in the specialty of med/surg nursing. Feel proud, be proud, and wear your pride in your work environment!! Instill that pride in your med/surg nurse colleagues and share your enthusiasm for med/surg nursing to patients, families, health care providers, and the general public.

As the specialty organization for med/surg nurses, the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) seeks to represent med/surg nurses by telling the American public, legislators, health care providers, insurers, and other nursing specialty organizations about the contributions med/surg nurses make to health care. In addition, the AMSN supports med/surg nurses by fostering excellence in adult health med/surg nursing practice through continuing education at our annual meeting and in our journal, MedSurg Nursing. We also conduct the certification review course at the Nursing Symposium each year.

For more information about the AMSN and its programs, please visit http://www.medsurgnurse.org or call our toll-free number, 1-866-877-AMSN.

As AMSN's president, I'm happy to welcome you to Med/Surg Insider.
