Ingeborg Mauksch, PhD, RN, FAAN, 82, a native of Vienna, Austria, who as one of the first nurse practitioners in the United States helped guide the development of collaborative practice among nurses and physicians, died on June 20 in Fort Collins, Colorado, from complications related to a fall. Mauksch was the director of the first significant national initiative designed to increase the number of primary care nursing faculty. She also held an endowed professorship in nursing at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and appointments at the University of Missouri School of Medicine, in Columbia, and Florida's Gulf Coast University, in Fort Myers, where she helped to found the nursing program. At 70 Mauksch celebrated her Bat Mitzvah, a rite of passage unavailable to girls in prewar Vienna. In 1997 she was honored by the Hadassah Nurses Council as the Outstanding American Jewish Nurse. She is survived by her two children and five grandchildren.
