It is with profound sadness that we inform readers that Charles "Chuck" R. McConnell, founding and long-term Editor of The Health Care Manager (HCM), passed away on October 20th, 2019. This issue of the Journal was the last issue to be edited by Charles before his sudden death.
During his editorship, Charles was a prolific writer and editor. He edited more than 140 issues of the Journal and contributed over 220 editorials as well as articles to HCM over the past 38 years. Charles founded HCM in 1982, then titled The Health Care Supervisor, as a professional journal to meet the information needs of specialty health care managers in health care organizations. Over the years, Charles transformed HCM into a highly respected, peer-reviewed journal known for publishing important health care research and applied management information for managers and executives in all health care settings.
I have served as the Publisher of HCM at Wolters Kluwer for the past few years. It was a pleasure to partner with Charles to produce and distribute this stellar journal. Now our work begins to fill the shoes of a prolific editor and continue HCM's publishing tradition which Charles led for the past 38 years.
