Abstract

Efforts of health care management leaders to increase the diversity of its ranks have had limited success. A combination of factors, including emphasis on simply focusing on numeric goals and compliance with existing regulatory requirements, has given rise to the loss of an ethical and moral basis for why diversity should be embraced as a concept. The article suggests that a movement for diversity needs to be embraced at all levels of management and those impacting the health care management workforce, including academia and public policy makers.
