Bandages that incorporate a patient's own cells can speed wound healing, British researchers reported at a meeting of the British Burn Association in London last spring. The bandages, called Myskin, have been used successfully to treat British patients with burns and chronic diabetic wounds.

Sample cells are taken from the patient and grown on special discs in the lab. Five to seven days later, the discs are bandaged to the wound. Released from the discs, the cells prompt growth of new skin layers. The bandage is removed after cell migration is complete.
