Dr Britt Burton-Freeman Joins Nutrition Today Editorial Board

Nutrition Today welcomes to our Editorial Board Britt M. Burton-Freeman, who is professor and chair of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the Illinois Institute of Technology. She received her MS and PhD from the University of California at Davis in nutritional biology and did a postdoctoral in internal medicine at the University of California's Medical School at Sacramento. She has a broad background in clinical and preclinical research investigating the safety and efficacy of diet and dietary constituents, including dietary supplement-based interventions. Her current research activity focuses on plant foods, specifically fruits and nuts, and their phytochemical components, including fibers and polyphenols, on processes and mechanisms underlying obesity and cardiometabolic diseases. Her research integrates nutrition, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, and behavioral sciences using human study designs to characterize and understand physiological responses to diet during normal, stressed, and pathophysiological states. Recently, her work has focused on the reciprocal interactions of the gut metagenome with host genome in response to dietary input, specifically including dose/time response effects of foods/bioactive components, the metabolites generated and their kinetic behavior relevant to mechanisms of actionm and associated health status. Welcome, Britt.
