In addition to the four steps to restoring joy in the workplace described in the article, nursing leaders should focus more on bridging the transition to clinical practice for new graduate nurses. There is a false reality that after nursing school, a nurse will be financially secure and will experience emotional stability. But nursing school does not prepare future nurses for staffing shortages, work-related stress, and the financial burden of college loans.
