I think it is important to include a course on management in the undergraduate nursing curriculum ("Adapting the Nurse Manager Role to Attract Generation X and Millennial Nurses, Viewpoint, March). That way, students can discover early on if they might be interested in becoming nurse managers. My undergraduate curriculum did include such a course, and I was immediately interested in eventually moving up to a management position.

Early in my career I was a charge nurse. I earned a graduate degree in public administration. As my career progressed I became an assistant supervisor, then a supervisor. I ended my 40-year career as a director of patient services. That undergraduate management course exposed me to the field of management and helped me to identify it as a direction for my career.
