Every year, HIMSS recognizes a deserving HIMSS member with the HIMSS-ANI Nursing Informatics Leadership Award. The award recognizes a nursing informatics leader who demonstrates significant leadership contributions by optimizing health engagements and care outcomes through information and technology. HIMSS and ANI provide this award jointly to recognize an individual who demonstrates significant leadership contributions by optimizing health engagements and care outcomes through information and technology. The award is given to an individual for success and achievement as a nursing informatics leader in a provider, supplier, or academic organization or a professional society. HIMSS is a cosponsor of ANI, along with AMIA.
Nancy Joan Beale, MSN, RN-BC, president, Beale and Associates LLC, received the 2019 HIMSS-ANI Nursing Informatics Leadership Award. Beale has exhibited local and nationwide leadership in her commitment to the nursing informatics profession in her workplace and through her work with HIMSS as a member.
With more than a decade of informatics experience, her leadership has driven multiple implementations throughout various local organizations. Beale has also driven nursing informatics efforts internationally in several capacities, working on several informatics-related committees to promote the diffusion of knowledge and give visibility to the specialty.
In her current role, Beale oversees portfolio management work and informatics special projects. Her leadership has led to several successful workflow optimization programs and successful system implementations. While working as vice president of Clinical Systems and Integration, her organization was a recipient of the prestigious HIMSS Davies Award. In addition, she was a key participant in the development of the HIMSS Value Suite resource guide titled, "Developing an Engaged Informatics Culture." Beale is currently a doctoral student at Loyola University's Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing in Chicago. Her research is focused on technology adoption in nursing and associated implications for patient safety, quality, and efficiency.
Beale was recognized during the Awards Gala at the 2019 HIMSS Global Conference & Exhibition, as well as the HIMSS19 Nursing Informatics Symposium.
