As a nurse case manager for the newborn and obstetrical areas, I read Dr. Johnson's article (MCN, 28[5], September/October 2003) regarding analgesia use in circumcision. There was no mention as to what type of procedure was performed. In this area, physicians can use either the plastibell method or the older gomco clamp method for hemostasis. I would think that this would complicate your study since the gomco method requires the postoperative use of petroleum jelly dressing to alleviate contact of the raw, penile head to have contact with the diaper. That might be of interest if you ever have a follow up or repeat study.
Thanks for a very interesting and thought provoking report.
