National Coalition for Hospice and Palliative Care issues updated guidelines. The fourth edition of Clinical Practice Guidelines for Quality Palliative Care incorporates new evidence available as of April 2018. The guidelines provide best practices for palliative care specialists as well as for nurses and other clinicians who care for patients with a serious illness and their families. Organized in the same eight domains of practice as previous editions, with multiple practice examples, updates include an emphasis on coordinating care (particularly for patients receiving community-based palliative care), the importance of using validated tools for assessing and managing pain and other symptoms, and the addition of information on seriously ill neonates, children, and adolescents.
