I loved the November 2018 editorial, "To Be a Nurse." However, I was extremely disheartened to read that AJN received vitriolic e-mails in response to commentary on the recent treatment of immigrants.
It shocks me to see articles and CE programs for nurses on the topic of bullying of nurses by nurses. Clearly, as a profession, we are still mistreating our own, so I guess I should not be surprised that some nurses lack compassion for immigrants or other people.
As nurses, we have the opportunity and privilege to be heroes every day. That is the nursing identity I treasure.
