Abstract
The reimbursement and clinical changes resulting from Medicare PPS can seem daunting to a home care clinician. However, as this article explains, using their knowledge of the nursing process, clinicians can effectively manage the 60-day episode of care from a positive clinical and financial viewpoint.
PPS shifts home health reimbursement by paying the agency to deliver a 60-day episode of care. While there is no requirement that the agency keep the client on service for the entire 60-day period, there is clearly an implicit responsibility and financial accountability for meeting all the patient's home care needs that arise during the entire 60-day episode.
