Nurses are professionals who should have the capacity to understand what is and is not appropriate at work. Information technology (IT) creep is influencing all aspects of health care. The knowledge provided by various apps can be extremely useful to patient care. These apps are more vital at night, when a large portion of the multidisciplinary team is not present.

If facilities can provide a handheld device that offers all the knowledge my iPhone does, I will change my stance. Investing time in training staff concerning health care ethics and IT will be far more beneficial than banning cell phone use.
