The WHO releases Consolidated Guideline on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Women Living with HIV. An updated guideline from the World Health Organization (WHO) aims to improve the long-term health and equity of women who have HIV, a disease that according to the WHO "is not only driven by gender inequality, but it also entrenches gender inequality, leaving women more vulnerable to its impact." Almost 18 million women and girls ages 15 and older were estimated to be living with HIV in 2015. The new guideline updates a 2006 WHO publication, Sexual and Reproductive Health of Women Living With HIV/AIDS: Guidelines on Care, Treatment and Support for Women Living with HIV/AIDS and Their Children in Resource-Constrained Settings, and addresses the significant changes that have occurred in research, practice, and HIV policies in the past decade.
