Alaris Center Medication Safety and Clinical Improvement Site
Alaris Medical recently launched a new online service to help reduce the risk of drug-delivery errors. The Medication Safety and Clinical Improvement Site is now a part of Alaris' existing Alaris Center, which provides online tools, consulting services, and resources for healthcare workers. The site offers an e-library where clinicians can access drug information, notices about upcoming conferences related to safety, and a Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), which is aimed at helping organizations meet JCAHO requirements and complete ongoing quality improvement initiatives. The service can be accessed at http://www.alarismed.com/alariscenter/index.html.

Horizon Medical Products LifeGuard Safety Needle
FIGURE
Horizon Medical Products has released a new generation of safety needle in its LifeGuard series of safety infusion products. The LifeGuard Safety Needle was created in response to federal legislation that requires healthcare organizations to use equipment that protects clinicians against accidental sharps injuries and possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens such as HIV and hepatitis C. The LifeGuard is engineered to fully encapsulate the needle while de-accessing the port, this is the step in the procedure when the clinician is in danger of being exposed to a possible needlestick injury caused by rebound, transport, or disposal. Additionally, the LifeGuard's low-profile design should enhance patient comfort when the patient is required to live with a needle in the implanted port. For more information, contact Erin Young at (800) 472-5221 ext. 3025 or visit the Web site, which includes video animation of the device, at http://www.hmpvascular.com.
