Abbot Laboratories Needlestick Prevention Web Site

Abbott Laboratories recently announced that it has launched a Web site aimed at preventing needlesticks. The site contains information about needlestick prevention legislation, as well as educational information for healthcare workers. Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that the number of yearly needlestick injuries is between 600,000 and 800,000. As a leader in needlestick prevention devices, Abbott hopes that the Web site will help healthcare workers implement guidelines contained in the recent Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act, which became law in November 2000. To access the Web site, go to http://www.abbottnps.com.

MedWagon

The MedWagon is intended to help healthcare workers and children by making it easy to move a pediatric patient with a hanging infusion. The plastic wagon is fitted with a locking stainless steel pole from which the infusion can hang while transporting the patient, and its surface is easy to disinfect. This feature allows greater mobility for children receiving infusion therapy and makes moving the child less cumbersome for the healthcare worker. Removable sides make for easy patient access and the pole can be stored underneath the wagon when not in use.

The outer body dimensions measure 44 x 22 x 22 3/4 inches and the wagon can hold up to 150 pounds. The pole stands 27 inches high. The MedWagon was designed by Angie Potter RN, BSN, a pediatric nurse at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis. For more information about the MedWagon, call (314) 963-9925 or visit http://www.medwagon.com.
