It was a very long winter for some, but finally warmer weather has arrived to most of us. Spring has nearly passed, and we are awaiting the first days of summer. I'm also awaiting my first day of full retirement on July 1st. On that date, the full responsibility as the Editor-in-Chief will pass to Dr. Kim Curry, who has been immersed in learning the ins and outs of the editing and publishing processes that will allow her to lead this journal forward. Managing a monthly journal is a full-time job and, along with the Editorial Board, Dr. Curry is ready to assume the task. In addition to having a new editor in 2018, JAANP moved to a new publisher, Wolters Kluwer, which required many changes for all of us.
For members, there is still seamless access to JAANP as a member benefit, although the journal platform website has changed (http://www.jaanp.com). For free member access, log into the AANP website using your membership information, and go to the member access link to JAANP. If you have institutional access to the journal, log in through your institution to view your monthly issue. You should also receive a monthly eTOC alert by email when an issue is compiled and available online. You may notice the journal appearance has changed; that change was part of a redesign and modernization of our look. Although we don't publish issues in print, our advertising and branding of JAANP promote our new look.
New content was introduced in the journal in 2018. Beginning in March we are featuring a CE article each month. This month, the CE article will increase your understanding of organophosphate insecticide exposure. Members receive a discount for the CE, which is available via the member access portal. Next month, we will publish the first article in a new regular column, Unraveling the Genome, edited by Drs. Diane Seibert and Ken Wysocki. Genetics and genomics have been high priority content areas for JAANP given the need for improved clinical understanding of all things related to the role of the human genome in healthcare today. A revived and re-envisioned Fellows column, edited by Dr. Mary Jo Goolsby and managed by a dedicated group of Fellows of AANP, has also made an appearance in 2018. The first for this year in the March issue, Hurricane Katrina: A nurse practitioner's experience by Dr. Sophia Thomas, will bring back many memories for those of you who have been through some of the horrific storms of the past several years. It is worth mentioning that the first of the revived Fellows columns appeared in September 2017 with a revised and re-envisioned message to NPs aspiring to become Fellows (Rossiter, Sabol, & Hicks, 2017). This article will be a useful reference for members applying to the next class of Fellows this year.
As usual in each issue of JAANP, we bring you the latest research, systematic reviews, clinical innovations, and quality improvement reports. Because our audience is so varied, we try to provide articles of interest to most of our readers in every issue. We can't do that without our peer reviewers and Editorial Board who remind us of what is important and relevant to NP practice. Of course, we would have nothing to publish without the great selection of submissions from talented authors.
This is the last editorial from me as the outgoing editor; next month you will hear from the new Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Curry. It has been a great privilege to serve as the editor of this dynamic and interesting journal, and I'm confident JAANP will continue to move forward under the capable direction of Dr. Curry and the wonderful publishing staff at Wolters Kluwer. I look forward to seeing many of you in Denver in June. Both Dr. Curry and I will be at the JAANP booth, as will several representatives from our publisher. Come join us for cake and conversation as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of JAANP at our national conference.
