This consumer-friendly website covers the basics about a range of mental illnesses, including anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders. It dispels common myths and maintains hotlines to assist veterans in crisis, children and adults with suicidal thoughts, and others who need immediate help. Using an interactive feature, patients and families can find nearby support groups and other local resources. Free brochures and fact sheets are available for download.

 

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization. Its website offers information on the NAMI HelpLine, which provides callers with free referral information and support Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The website also promotes various ways for patients and families to become involved in community events, such as mental health awareness walks. The NAMI blog shares stories of recovery, and an Ask the Expert feature offers expert responses to visitors' questions.

 

World Health Organization (WHO)

The WHO provides information on many global mental health initiatives, such as Project Atlas, which collects, disseminates, and distributes mental health data and neurology resources around the world, and the Global Dementia Observatory, which tracks progress on the provision of services for people with dementia and their caregivers. The WHO Mental Health Gap Action Programme promotes services for mental, neurologic, and substance use disorders for low- and middle-income communities. The website also provides a list of mental health publications by topic.
