I have been a bedside nurse in surgical or neurosurgical ICUs for 33 years. I am clear that 75% of the younger nurses I work with don't intend to stay at the bedside. It is sad because most are good at their job but it's been drilled into them that they "must go on," that bedside nursing is "below" them.
