HIMSS and the Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI) honored Catherine Ivory as the recipient of the 2018 HIMSS-ANI Nursing Informatics Leadership Award. She received recognition at the HIMSS18 Nursing Symposium and received the award at the HIMSS 2018 Awards Gala in early March 2018.

Throughout her career, Catherine Ivory, PhD, RNC-OB, RN-BC, FAAN, has demonstrated her commitment to helping cultivate the next generation of nurse informaticists.

After spending more than 15 years as a staff nurse, clinical specialist, and women's services nursing administrator at the healthcare system level, she joined the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing faculty in 2012. In 2014, Ivory served as the 2014 President of the Association of Women's Health, OB and Neonatal Nurses, representing more than 300 000 nurses who care for women and newborns.

She is also a board-certified informatics nurse, holding a secondary appointment in the Vanderbilt Department of Biomedical Informatics in the School of Medicine. She now serves as the associate chief nurse executive and vice president of professional practice and care transformation at Indiana University Health.

An active volunteer with HIMSS, Ivory has served as a member of the HIMSS Standard Terminologies Task Force, the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Committee, and the HIMSS Annual Conference Nursing Symposium Planning Committee-actively engaging across all HIMSS nursing informatics communities.

Dr Kelly Aldrich, DNP, MS, RN-BC, Chief Clinical Transformation Officer, Center for Medical Interoperability, Nashville, TN, shares in her recommendation letter: "What impresses me about Cathy is her ability to collaboratively engage with senior executives, academic scholars as well practicing clinicians and relate to all while meeting their targeted needs for solutions within the informatics field." Her many achievements and contributions to the nursing profession have earned Catherine Ivory the 2018 HIMSS-ANI Nursing Informatics Leadership Award. HIMSS and ANI present this award to one individual who, in the judgment of the HIMSS North America Board of Directors, has demonstrated significant leadership in the area of nursing informatics within the society and the healthcare community.

"I have had the honor of working with Cathy Ivory on the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Committee," said Mary Beth Mitchell, ANI co-chair, MSN, RN, BC-NI, CPHIMS. "Her passion for nursing, desire for advancement of professional nursing practice, and knowledge of nursing informatics are inspiring. She exemplifies this award, and exceeds the standards that ANI strives to achieve to advance Nursing Informatics as a professional discipline within Nursing. Through Cathy's leadership, academic acumen and engagement with many nursing organizations, she represents the best that nursing has to offer. We are indeed honored to have Cathy Ivory as this year's recipient of the Nursing Informatics Leadership Award."

"Cathy Ivory represents a nurse leader in her specialty area and nursing domain, who has also served in a broad array of team and leadership positions in nursing informatics at the national level," said Charlotte Weaver, PhD, RN, MSPH, FHIMSS, FAAN, co-chair of ANI. "Her first loyalty is to advancing nursing science and quality care, as demonstrated by her solid track record of applied informatics research and publications. In addition, through her selfless collaborations and extensive mentoring of others, Cathy's contributions constitute a significant body of work to nursing and informatics."

"Cathy's background is founded in perinatal nursing and she has previously received national and regional awards for clinical, nursing leadership and academic excellence," said Joyce Sensmeier, MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, FAAN, vice president of informatics, HIMSS North America. "She has been an active volunteer and thought leader working with the Alliance for Nursing Informatics, the Tennessee March of Dimes and the National Quality Forum Value Set Harmonization project. She is an exemplary clinician leader and strategic thinker, and consistently serves as a positive advocate and role model for HIMSS nursing informatics community, and other clinical endeavors."
