From the Editors

Over recent years, some of the top journals in our field have brought on new Editors. Unfortunately, the transition from one Editor to another can result in difficulty for the journal. Sometimes the change has led to an unstable period, with unexpected decisions, a decline in impact factor, and dissatisfaction for the new Editor, readers, and reviewers. Experienced Editors have discussed these situations with each other, wondering how to keep the boat stable while passing responsibility to a new Editor. Our solution to this conundrum is succession planning. With this in mind, our plan is to train a new Editor to join the team in the next year.

As we begin to think about succession planning, we need your help. If you are personally interested in becoming a journal Editor or if you know of someone who you believe would be great in the role, please let us know. We hope to interview candidates in the next few months. Once we identify a great candidate, we plan to slowly introduce her/him to the role and philosophy of being an Editor for the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. Barbara has been editing the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing since its inception in the 1980s, and Debra joined as co-Editor in 1997. Clearly, we have a lot of experience to communicate. We plan an orderly transition that we hope will make the change smooth.
