On September 22, 2003, CMS issued "Health Care Industry Market Update on Home Health" updating the first report published June 29, 2002. The update focuses on the home health agency and home respiratory and infusion therapy industry sectors and was developed by the CMS Office of Research, Development & Information (ORDI). Research reports from major investment firms were collected and summarized by ORDI, then condensed into a short, and understandable format to provide objective summary information that can be quickly used by CMS, HHS, and Congress.

The overall goal of the updates, which are prepared for every healthcare service providing services reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid, and S-CHIP funds, is to better understand the finances of the contractors, health providers, and other related businesses that provide services to the more than 70 million beneficiaries.
