A couple of years ago, I went to my physician for an annual checkup and was told I didn't need any more routine checks ("How Long Should Routine Health Screening Continue?" In the News, September).
It just felt like, "And then you die! We won't do anything more for you." While I was over 75 at the time, I am healthy, keep active, and expect to live quite a while. It was quite a jolt to hear that I wasn't "worth" monitoring anymore!
