AN ESTIMATED 384,325 health care workers are injured by needles and other sharps each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And nurses sustain the largest share of injuries overall-about 44%, according to EPINet (Exposure Prevention Information Network) data for 2001.
