Implementing EBM: Strategies needed

I'm writing in response to "EBM: A Pathway to Evidence-Based Nursing Management" (February 2017). As a new nurse leader, I need to ensure I have the tools I need to utilize evidence-based management (EBM) on my unit so our patients receive the safest and most effective care possible.

I appreciate the tone and content of this article, but I'd like to see a plan for achieving successful EBM. Nurse leaders, especially new leaders, would benefit greatly from additional information and strategies. Perhaps a follow-up article would be helpful. I look forward to reading more on this topic in Nursing2017.

Assessing for hypocalcemia

I'd like to thank the staff of Nursing2017 for bringing us yet another inspiring issue. I especially enjoyed reading "Managing Hypocalcemia in Massive Blood Transfusion" (May 2017).

As the authors point out, Trousseau and Chvostek signs are clinical indicators of neuromuscular excitability. In addition, perioral numbness and tingling are possible symptoms of hypocalcemia. When the patient is awake and alert, asking about paresthesias should be part of the nursing assessment.
