Courtney Lyder Joins University of Virginia School of Nursing
Courtney H. Lyder, ND, GNP, FAAN, CWS, has joined the faculty at the University of Virginia School of Nursing. He is the first person to hold the University of Virginia Medical Center Professorship in Nursing, which was established in 1999. Dr Lyder, a member of the Advances in Skin & Wound Care Editorial Advisory Board and a well-known gerontologic nurse practitioner, was formerly Associate Professor of Nursing and Gerontology at Yale University School of Nursing, where he was also the director of the program for the advancement of chronic wound care. In addition, Dr Lyder does consulting and policy work with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services to improve the quality of care for vulnerable, elder adults in the United States.

At the University of Virginia, Dr Lyder will combine his talents in clinical research, practice, and teaching. Through the university's new Web-based postmaster's gerontologic nurse practitioner program, Dr Lyder will provide training for faculty across the nation. His goal is to continue to build the University of Virginia's gerontology nursing program so that it becomes one of the top programs in the nation within 5 years. Dr Lyder will also continue the gerontologic nursing research he has been involved with since 1991, and he has selected the University of Virginia as 1 of 3 sites to study advancements in chronic wound care of the elderly.
