In 2016, Nurses Service Organization, more commonly known as NSO, celebrated its 40th anniversary. Throughout those 40 years, the nursing profession has seen great advances in technology, science, education, and medication delivery. The profession has evolved as has the role of nurses.
As health care continually becomes more patient-centered, nurses have emerged as leaders in the health care system. They are at the center of health care, not only working closely with physicians to determine proper care but also interacting with patients and their families to help ensure they understand their options and are prepared to make the best possible decisions. But as the role of nurses has evolved, so has their risk.
NSO's relationship with INS dates back to 1999. For nearly 2 decades, NSO and INS have collaborated and worked to educate and safeguard INS members not only from malpractice claims but also defense of nurse licensures. Committed to advancing the success of infusion nurses, NSO has enjoyed collaborating with INS to bring a comprehensive risk program to its members. A few examples include:
* Continually educating infusion nurses on their evolving risk by publishing risk management information in Newsline, INS' bimonthly newsletter.
* Recognizing and advocating for the higher standard of care to which infusion nurses are held, NSO worked closely with our insurance carrier, CNA, to offer an automatic 10% premium credit on professional liability policies for INS members who hold the CRNI(R) credential.
* Knowing that conference attendance is an excellent source of education, NSO collaborated with CNA to offer a 10% premium credit for INS members who attend an INS conference and complete 6 hours of approved continuing education. * Taking every opportunity to personally interact with INS members, NSO is present at INS conferences and events. NSO will speak at INS National Academy this fall to help educate INS members on the risks facing infusion nurses, with a specific focus on "Stay Ahead of the Curve, Don't Become a Malpractice Case Study."
