Abstract
The distant faculty model could help institutions solve several problems related to vacant faculty positions, the need for faculty mentorship, and decreasing student enrollments. First, retaining experienced faculty who might have to leave the institution because of personal or professional reasons 4,5 is a “no-brainer.” The growing faculty shortage is not going to get better in the short-term. The average age of master's-prepared nursing faculty at the assistant professor, associate professor, and professor ranks is 51.2, 58.7, and 57.1 years, respectively.
