Abstract

Nurses participated last November in protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline project in North Dakota and rendered first aid as winter approached. National Nurses United's Registered Nurse Response Network donated $50,000 to support the more than 2,000 U.S. military veterans who traveled to the site to peacefully defend the protesters. Native American tribes oppose the pipeline as a threat to their sacred lands and water supplies, and the United Nations has cited the “excessive force” used against protesters by U.S. law enforcement officials. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers halted the pipeline project in December, but that decision may change with the incoming administration.
