Thank you very much for your incisive and informative interview with former Navy nurse Susan Schnall ("Peace and Reconciliation," Profiles, August). As I write this, it is the anniversary of the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. The Vietnam War created a medical emergency that is still with us, not only for those killed and injured, but in terms of the destruction of land in Vietnam and the unhealed wounds caused by chemicals like Agent Orange. Schnall's role in attempting to prevent suffering during the war and, later, in attempting to heal the wounds caused by the war was and is exemplary. If there was a Medal of Honor for working against war, Schnall would be at the front of the line to get one.
