Abstract
Abstract: The 2016 Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) for hospitals required full implementation by January 1, 2016. The purpose of the NPSGs is to improve patient safety by applying evidence- and expert-based solutions to high-risk, problem-prone areas with a significant risk to patient safety and the potential for patient harm. This article describes the new NPSG requirements for 2016 and provides an overview of the pre-existing goals.
