Article Content

This issue, the last one before the beginning of our 40th anniversary year, contains a range of articles covering the concerns that the journal has pursued over the past decades. In the first 2 articles, Hoopes and Miller focus on a critical abiding interest for the journal, community health centers. In particular, the 2 articles examine distinct aspects of the impact of the Affordable Care Act on community health centers. Next and in separate articles and in completely different ways, Miller and Christensen highlight patient and family engagement. Organization of medical homes and primary care physician offices remains a key challenge for any successful health reform initiative. Revere examines issues pertaining to geographic proximity to primary care offices, whereas Hirozawa targets the key issue of risk adjustment of primary care physician panels.

The next issue begins our 40th anniversary year. This year we have already begun to celebrate the oldest peer-reviewed journal focused on ambulatory care, with recent special issues on community health workers and paying for outcomes. We hope to have mini-special issues in each of the 4 issues of our 40th anniversary. We look forward to publishing articles on the following critical topics: electronic medical record implementation, state-based health reform, and patient confidence/activation/empowerment. There is a possibility for more-and we would welcome input and ideas from interested readers-either on single articles or on mini-issues. I am truly lucky to have worked on the journal in a variety of capacities for the past more than 30 years. Please e-mail me if you would like to be involved and would be happy to engage you in any of a number of different capacities.
