The editorial board of the Plastic Surgical Nursing (PSN) journal held its executive board meeting during the annual American Society of Plastic Surgical Nurses (ASPSN) convention on October 20, 2015, in Boston, MA.
The board meets annually to discuss the data received through our publisher, Wolters Kluwer. Kathleen Phelan, senior publisher for Health Learning, Research and Practice, was present to share how the journal is doing in comparison with other journals under its umbrella.
Ovid Technologies, Inc. (or just Ovid for short), is part of the Wolters Kluwer group of companies. Ovid provides access to online bibliographic databases, academic journals, and other products, chiefly in the area of health sciences. Ovid is a key component to increasing PSN's global reach. In 2015, there were 3,962 institutional sites with access to PSN, which was an 18.7% increase since 2014. This is very positive news for the journal, as it is continuing to receive international visibility.
Ovid is available in 142 countries and in five different languages, which is more than any other institutional platform. PSN is available in 49 of the 142 countries. See Table 1.
Our goal is to increase this number by attracting more international authors and a broader range of plastic surgical topics.
Another interesting statistic was determining the interest of the readership by ranking the top 10 read articles. This information, along with a list of the top search terms on the journal Web site, helps guide the editorial board to focus the journal articles on the readerships area of interest. See Table 2.
The ongoing struggle with PSN is securing authors to write and submit articles relevant to plastic surgical nursing. The board identified several articles and hot topics that we would like to see published. The following is a list of a few topics that we would like published for the 2016 issues of PSN. If you have a special interest in any of these topics, we would love to hear from you.
* Leech Therapy
* Nutrition and Supplementation
* Nutrition and Wound Healing
* Nutrition and Skin Health
* Kybella/Deoxycholine Treatments
* Facial Trauma
* Burns
* Gender Reassignment
* Cosmetic Surgery and Adolescents
* Pain Management
* Free Flaps
We are aware that it is stressful, though extremely rewarding, to submit an article. The Editorial Manager online submission site has a wealth of information on how to write and submit an article. These can be found under the headings of Instructions for Authors, 5 Steps to Creating Digital Artwork, and Author Tutorial. See Figure 1 (http://www.editorialmanager.com/psn). You will receive guidance during the writing process to make sure you are comfortable with the writing standards according to the APA format 6 and the submission process.
If you are interested in writing an article, these are the submission deadline dates for 2016 issues of PSN Journal.
36:1 (January-March)-December 11, 2015
36:2 (April-June)-March 17, 2016
36:3 (July-September)-June 14, 2016
36:4 (October-December)-September 12, 2016

If any members of ASPSN are interested in joining the editorial board, becoming a department chair, or manuscript reviewer, do not hesitate to contact me at mailto:[email protected].
This is your journal. Let's increase the visibility and content by asking our work colleagues to consider writing an article and reaching out through social media. We all have an abundance of knowledge in our brains that, may seem basic to us, but would be extremely beneficial to others in our field. Let's share this information through our journal.
Respectfully submitted,
Tracey A. Hotta, RN, BScN, CPSN, CANS
