The purpose of this pilot study was to describe a process to measure clinical decision-making and to examine clinical judgment of nursing students using human patient simulation (HPS). A descriptive design was used to assess students' understanding at various critical decision points during an HPS. A total of 51 students participated in the study. At Time 1, 49 percent correctly identified the situation; at Time 2, 71 percent correctly recognized the cues. The data suggest that while correctly identifying cues is essential to making correct judgments, the relationship between cues and judgments appears to be more complex.
