Abstract
* Patients taking the antipsychotic drug clozapine must be monitored for severe neutropenia, but the method for doing so has been modified. The absolute neutrophil count is now the laboratory test of choice, rather than the white blood cell count.
* A new risk evaluation and mitigation strategy covering all preparations of clozapine has been established. This new program governs all prescribing, dispensing, use, and monitoring of clozapine.
