CONFERENCE FEATURES LATEST ADVANCES AND CONTROVERSIES IN NUTRITION RESEARCH AND PRACTICE, DECEMBER 4-6, 2015
The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) will host its 5th Advances & Controversies in Clinical Nutrition (ACCN 15), December 4-6, 2015 at the Long Beach Hilton in Long Beach, California. ACCN 15 will bring together leaders in the field of nutrition, medicine, and food science for a comprehensive overview of today's hottest topics in nutrition.
ACCN 15 is designed to communicate cutting-edge advances in nutrition research and stimulate discussion on emerging or controversial issues in nutrition that impact human health. The program includes lectures, controversy sessions, workshops, professional development opportunities, scientific posters, networking events, and more.
This year's program covers a variety of topics of interest to clinicians and nutrition professionals. From coffee to eggs to saturated fats, presentations will explore the latest changes in dietary recommendations coming from the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. Controversial topics such as "Carbs under Attack" will delve into issues such as "gluten sensitivity: new epidemic, or current craze?" a critical analysis of the FODMAP diet, and caloric and noncaloric sweeteners. Lifestyle approaches to the management of sarcopenia in the elderly and nutrition and fatty liver disease will also be reviewed.
The program emphasizes the practical application and integration of evidence-based research findings into clinical practice. To improve patient care and outcomes, communication techniques to encourage lifestyle changes and help patients reach their goals will be explored.
The meeting is targeted to physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, community health educators, policy makers, and others with an interest in clinical nutrition.
The members of the program committee are Joel Mason, MD (cochair), and Kelly Tappenden, PhD, RD (cochair); Ruth E. Grossmann, PhD, MNHP, RN; Melina Jampolis, MD; Scott Kahan, MD, MPH; Zhaoping Li, MD, PhD; Susan Raatz, RD, MPH, PhD; Ed Saltzman, MD; Tom Ziegler, MD; and Connie Bales, PhD.
CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT AVAILABLE
Continuing professional education credits will be available for registered dietitians and dietitian technicians, registered. Through a joint providership with the Tufts University School of Medicine, continuing medical education credits for physicians and American Nurses Credentialing Center credits for nurses will be available. Tufts University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Tufts University School of Medicine Office of Continuing Education is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Original research abstracts are being accepted for poster presentation. Topic areas include nutrition and disease, obesity, nutrition education, and other subjects related to clinical nutrition. Abstracts are due Monday, September 28.
